About Us

The United States Refugee Resettlement Program is an historic, bipartisan, humanitarian program that has offered safe haven to millions of refugees from around the globe.

The state of Illinois is a national leader in refugee resettlement.  For more than thirty years, refugees fleeing persecution in their homelands have found freedom and safety in our communities. 

The welcome we provide to these courageous survivors is a core principle of our great nation.  When refugees are received with dignity and adequate support, they quickly become vital, contributing members who enrich our local communities. 

Members of the Golden Door Coalition want Illinois to continue providing safety, shelter and a new life to those seeking refugee on our shores. 

We are advocating on behalf of the thousands of new refugee families expected to arrive in Illinois in the coming years.  We want to ensure they receive the vital support needed so that they can build successful new lives and become self-sufficient members of our community.
